Elements in Transitional Space
Fall 2006

Professor Liliane Wong

The final project for the first semester graduate design studio was to design and produce a piece of furniture that would be donated to Pine Street Inn in Boston.

Pine Street Inn provides emergency shelter, hot meals, and rehabilitation for homeless men and women. Our piece was designed for one of their half-way homes in Jamaica Plain.

Homelessness forever changes the way that people feel in their environment, rarely allowing for rest or relaxation.

The chair, built with a partner, was designed to allow someone using it to be able to relax--however briefly, by guiding them into a gently reclined pose. Hence the name: Still Life.
